Banned Book Week: Take the GOOD Quiz

by Yasha Wallin

October 3, 2012

Through October 6, it's officially "Banned Book Week." This celebration of the freedom to read, reminds us that every year hundreds of books are banned or challenged in libraries and schools in the U.S. and abroad. Many of these books are now considered indispensable classics.

The list is endless, but includes noteworthy literary contributions like Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Malcolm X and Alex Haley; Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak; Beloved by Toni Morrison; The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger—all of which were censored for various reasons.

For the sake of this quiz, we're thinking about one particular book deemed beyond the palea record of events spanning the years 1942 to 1944 during WWII. It was banned for being too depressing, for sexual references, and for undermining adult authority. Can you guess which book this is?
