Do These Men Wearing Their Girlfriends' Clothes Explore Equality?

Now more than ever, our notion of traditional gender roles is being turned on its head. In the series "The Men Under the Influence," Spanish photographer Jon Uriarte sought to explore these changing norms, and the resulting confusion men experience as their responsibilities are revisited within relationships. Over the course of three years Uriarte traveled around Spain and the U.S. to photograph heterosexual males in their girlfriend's clothes.

The photographer explains, "The photos attempt to capture men's sense of loss reference, now that women have taken a step forward and have finally come into their own as equal partners. The project consists of full-length portraits of men wearing the clothes of their girlfriends or wives, taken in the space shared by the couple." While many of the men in the series look deeply contemplative, perhaps pondering their positions, just as many look quite comfortable in their loved ones' attire, suggesting that equality may be a more natural state for men and women to exist in.
