This post is brought to you by GOOD, with support from UPS. We’ve teamed up to bring you the Small Business Collaborative, a series sharing stories about innovative small businesses that are changing business as usual for their communities and beyond. Learn how UPS is helping small businesses work better and more sustainably here.

Though LED lights are a popular choice for all kinds of uses today, Mark Costigliola, founder of EarthLED, began selling LED lighting solutions online to consumers in 2007 when they were less commonly used. LED lights contain no mercury or hazardous substances and are also more efficient at using energy. The site really took off in 2008, and since then Costigliola has been helping consumers and businesses save 50 to 80 percent on their lighting costs.

Based in Colorado, Costigliola extends sustainable practices to all aspects of his business and office space–so much so that last year EarthLED was able to sell power back to the grid after generating an excess. Watch the video above to see how EarthLED found a way to implement environmentally friendly practices in all aspects of their business.
