Intermission: Missing Dog Swims to Find Help

by Wylie Overstreet

January 11, 2012

Fair warning: This is the only happy part of a very sad story. A woman was out walking her Viszla hound Saturday afternoon when she was struck and killed by a drunk driver. The dog, named Barney, was also injured in the accident.

A day later, a fisherman kayaking far off-shore, noticed a splashing noise behind him and saw what looked like a dog swimming toward him. Barney had evidently entered the water a half mile away, and was near exhaustion by the time the fisherman pulled him aboard. He has since been returned to his owners.

In other news, don't ever drink and drive.
