Learn How to Start a DIY Farmers' Market

These days, it seems everyone's inclined to take the initiative and just create what's lacking in their town. If a farmers' market is what's missing from your hood, come and learn what it might take to start one this Friday, October 22, at SPUR, the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In this information session, you’ll learn about everything from the difference between a certified and non-certified market to the newest types of food ventures on the rise like food carts and underground markets. As a fitting end, we'll do a blind tasting of fruits from farmers markets versus those from conventional ones. Presenters include Leslie Crawford, founder of the Noe Valley Farmers Market, Iso Rabins of the SF Underground Market, and Dave Stockdale, executive director of the Center for Urban Education and Sustainable Agriculture. Moderated by yours truly.
