Meet the Man Behind a Local, Indigenous Seed Bank in India

Dr. Debal Deb is an ecologist and community advocate in India. He cultivates a seed bank to protect and share indigenous seed varieties within the community. The new short film, The Farmer, the Architect, and the Scientist, profiles his work.

"If we all give importance to our traditional heirloom seeds, and cultivate them on our farms, then all the farmers will, all together, be able to keep our own varieties in our own hands," Deb said. "Otherwise we will face a situation where corporate seeds will be the only option left for all farmers of all districts with no other means of living."
