Transit Tunes: Six Songs to Celebrate Trains

by Rosalie Murphy

June 2, 2013

I wish I took more trains. I know it's faster to fly or cheaper to drive, but I really like that any mood is appropriate on a train—you can miss the place you're leaving and anticipate your destination in equal parts. That's what these songs do, too.

Jon Foreman, "Southbound Train"

Gladys Knight and the Pips, "Midnight Train to Georgia"

Cat Stevens, "Peace Train"

Imogen Heap, "First Train Home"

Duke Ellington, "Take the A-Train"

Bruce Springsteen, "Land of Hope and Dreams"
