I'm the dominant crafter in my house, but my fiancé's no slouch, either. When life handed him a shirt with too many holes for my skills to repair, he upcycled it into this colorful and summer-ready pocket square. Using another pocket square from his collection as a guide, he salvaged a square out of this irreparable shirt. Then, rather than negotiate my sewing machine, he simply pulled out a few threads along the edges so it wouldn't fray.
It got me thinking about all the other accessories my guy could be making himself. The following are five useful tutorials for showing yourself—or a man in your life—a little DIY loving.
Cottin webbing belt. To make your own cotton webbing belt like this awesome version from Etsy seller Grey36Leather, follow this tutorial from Creative Little Daisy. It's a how-to for a women's belt, but could easily be altered for a more masculine look. Use canvas, faux leather, or nylon to knock out a few styles while you've got your D-rings out.
Billfold from paperbacks. How a person is able to fit everything he needs into one 3-by-4-inch space is beyond me. (Unless someone is making billfolds with some Mary Poppin's bag technology, I'm not buying it). But or those who thrive in narrow margins, have at this project! These paperback wallets from Refabulous are your kind of slim and compact.
Repurposed rivet cufflinks. This tutorial from instructables has a cufflink for every interest, be it high-end cars (a Corvette logo) or just staying hydrated (there's a bottle of water on one pair). If you can find a small metal object that represents your tastes, you can make a pair of these personalized cufflinks.
